30 Days of Gratitude ((Link-Up)) 11/16/13

Yay for this taking off! First off I want to say I am super excited that so many have chosen to participate in my little #30DoG challenge! It's so thrilling to see that so many of you are choosing to look at the blessings in your life through out the month! And secondly, don't just stop after these 30 days! If you're interested you could of course continue it on like I do with my Thankful Thursday's which is then turned into my 1,000 Gifts list. The reason for all these lists is because it's my way of thanking the Lord for all that he's done in my life. Too neat right?!

__________________________________________________________________________________________________

Previous Lists:
Days #1-2
Days #3-9

Day 10- My Community. This is an extremely important one to me. I love each and every individual in my community for all the support they've given me throughout my life. I pride myself on trying to get know those who are around me and I want to be involved in my community. Staying active not only keeps me up to date on whose doing what but it also allows me to reach my hands out and help those who are in need. I can remember on multiple accounts that community members have reached out and gave me encouragement at specific times in my life when I needed it and for that I know I can never repay them. Growing up in a town of 1,600 and then moving just six miles away to a town of 550 I've come to realize that community is what makes a town have that special something that really connects everyone. Yes, sometimes the "small town rumors" can get under your skin, but I like to look at it as a blessing. At least everyone is concerned enough about me or my situation to be discussing it with others!

Day 11- Money. Simple right? Well, yes I'm more than blessed with having money. Most people don't even have enough to afford what they need and I have some that I try to stash away into savings just in case. I have always prided myself on being independent and while I was younger and my parents still supported me I'd often choose the cheapest things possible. My sister on the other hand was the one with the gold plated taste. She is the exact opposite of me sometimes.

Day 12- Pandora. Yes, I've used this often times in my 1,000 gifts list but I don't care. I am forever thankful for my Country Classics (Dolly Parton) station, for my Running Workouts station, for my Thrift Shop station and also my Country Christmas tunes. Pandora is what gets me through some tough days, it keeps me in the mood for holidays, it pushes me to run to the pumping beats of Miley and TayTay and yet it also relaxes me and gives me renewed faith on my Christian stations. Thank you to the genius who created such a gem for me to stream music. You deserve a pat on the back!

Day 13- My Church. This is something that is special to me. I grew up in the United Methodist Church in Wilber and I to this day, continue to go when I have the chance. I love my church. I love my church members. I love my fellow choir members. I love the old red hymnals we sign out of. I love the little tiled brown floor that as a child I remember crawling on and playing games on. I love the old wooden pews that make noise if you go to move during silent prayer time. I love all the faith I have learned from that old church. I love all the weddings, baptisms, choir cantatas, Sunday school programs and even the occasional long boring Bible study I've ever participated in at that church. I have walked in dragging my week only to walk out with a skip in my step knowing the Lord has blessed me. Nothing will ever replace my love for my church and all of the continuous learning it gives to me.

Day 14- Scentsy Business. Well, another one that I am extremely grateful for! This business has created an income for me that allows me to buy some extra gifts for myself but it also gives me a way to afford going on mini trips and vacations with other ladies who are in the business. This past year I took a trip to Indy that otherwise wouldn't have happened. I have had the awesome advantages of enjoying yummy smells in my house and I've even lucked out and earned some pretty cool freebies for incentives!

Day 15- Dolly Parton. Now don't laugh about this one! First off, yes I love her music. I have never once stated I love her style choice but that's an even better reason to know that I love her for being herself when the rest of the world is calling her a nut case. I love the meaning to her music, I am inspired by her continuous love to share about Jesus and her Christianity roots. I like how she started out in a one room shack and lived off of ketchup packets and built herself up solely based upon her music to a music legend that she is today. She inspires me to find ways to do good for others, she's created so many programs to give back and I only pray I can make a difference in 1/4 of the amount of people she's made a difference too. She uses her music as a platform to teach others about faith and giving back and I admire her for it. She's a true inspiration!

Day 16- Alumni Band Family. This is something I cherish and I am proud to be able to be a part of. We may get loud, be crazy, chant annoying things (YEOW) and even suck at playing our instruments but as a group we are a dysfunctional family. I cannot imagine any other core group of band nerds to spend my summer evenings with. They have become some of my closest friends who understand the love of my heritage, and are willing to put up with the Stooge shenanigans that we partake in. They're always full of encouragement and willing to cover for me if creepers come around.

Meatloaf Muffins

These might be the best idea ever! I have never really been a meatloaf person but my dad and Travis are both lovers of the meaty madness so I thought I'd go out of my bubble and try something just for them. The original recipe I found was from The Two Bite Club and I adapted it a bit to work for me.
Ingredients:
-1/2 tsp olive oil
-1/2 onion (diced)
-1 clove garlic (diced)
-1 cup ketchup
-1 1/2 lbs hamburger
-20 saltine crackers
-2 tbsp mustard
-1 tsp worcestershire sauce
-1/4 tsp ground pepper
-2 eggs

Directions:
1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees and saute your onions/garlic in the olive oil. Set aside to cool a bit.
2. In a large bow mix together all of the remaining ingredients but leave aside 1/2 cup of the ketchup to use later. I found it easier to just use my hands to mix all the ingredients together. It's all mushy and gross but totally fun!!
3. Spray your muffin tin with cooking spray to prevent sticking and then place portions of meatloaf into each one. I choose not to fill mine as full as it worked to cut down on cook time but feel free to pack those babies in there!!
4. Add 1-2 tbsp of ketchup on top of each "meatloaf muffin" and then throw them into the oven to cook for about 25-30 minutes.
These should freeze wonderfully for a quick supper during harvest or a busy evening of activities! This was a super simple recipe to throw together and I know it'll make it into my cook book. I'm still not 100% on board with the whole meatloaf thing but I'll manage to chomp through them for the love of boy. He seems to enjoy them so I may as well start to enjoy them as well :)

Previous Lists:
Days #1-2

Day 3- Running Gear. Yes, this is a weird one to be thankful for but my big ol bag of running gear is what motivates me to get out there. I'm a gadget nerd by accident and I get all sorts of excited when I can order a new running armband and then get outside to test it out. I'm subscribed to StrideBox and I love all the surprise goodies I receive. Some are duds but other items I've learned are well worth their weight in gold. It's also a blessing to have proper running gear with all these cold months coming up!

Day 4Books. Lately I've been on a major reading kick and I'm more than thrilled about it. It's good to read. Studies say that reading can increase your intelligence and keep your mind sharp. I have struggled with hating reality some days so getting "lost" in a book is a good way for me to escape these feelings of emotional stress. I love Christian contemporary reads. They're my addiction, but unfortunately I haven't found any lately that I couldn't live without. I also love to read because it's relaxing and is the only time during my day that I'm not required to check fbook, instagram pictures or type out blog posts. I need to focus on this stress relief a little more often I think!!

Day 5- My Tahoe (Taco). She deserves her own day of thankful-ness! As a matter of fact, in honor of her "special" day, I'm going to take her out and wash her!! She is always there to get me from point A to B without ever giving up on me. In the past two almost three years that I've owned my Tahoe I have never had any major issues with it. Granted yes she's had some confusion once in awhile but every vehicle does. She's never stranded me, never hit anything. She's a nice lady!!

Day 6- Vitamins. I know I abuse my gummy multi-vitamins but I'm not really here to listen to your lecture about it. Yes it's true that your body only absorbs so much of certain things so I'm just wasting my time eating extras but I don't care. I love them, they taste yummy and it gives me my sugar fix. Me and Trav have agreed we like the theory of "making up" for the days we missed. We usually eat 4-6 at a time and since we missed the couple days before we figured we're just adding to our deficiencies right?! Ya well, don't spoil it for us! I love them, they're yummy and healthy. Oh, and yes, they're Flintstones. No judging!!! Thankful  :)

Day 7- Family. Did you really expect this not to be on my list? For now I'll keep it simple and just address my direct family members consisting of my mom, dad and sister. To sum up my family we're a weird bunch, we're similar to the Adams family but instead of death being our topic and theme in life our family revolves around our Czech heritage. I love it. And I don't understand how people are not big into their heritage. I guess I grew up listening to polka bands and dancing to polka tunes my entire life and it's corrupted my brain enough to believe that this is normal. My parents have always been my biggest supporters in life. I'm constantly keeping them on their toes and I never once sit down long enough to fill them in on my life. But they're always the ones reminding me that faith, family and friends come first. Some days I tend to forget the important things in life but when my world comes crashing down they're there to hold me and help re-build the walls.

Day 8- My closet. There are ample times a week you can hear my whine about having nothing to wear but in reality, my problem is that I have too many choices. In fact, I have so many choices I honestly only do laundry once every other week and that's IF I need a specific outfit for a specific reason. I'm trying oh so hard to eliminate the items I'm no longer wearing but it's tough for a hoarder. Especially someone who holds onto things because of their sentimental value.

Day 9- Dirt Road Photograhy. I never expected my photography to take off like it did. I just expected to get a little business and potentially cover the costs of my fancy camera. Little did I know it opened the door for me to express my creative side and for people in the area to get afforable photos of their special moments. I am grateful for each and every person who has taken the time to support my business in one way or another. I pray that this photography journey continues into the future and I continue to build up this business. It's so much fun!

Stapleton Stampede ((5k Race Results))

Look at me go! I'm finally posting about races that happened almost two months ago! I'm behind, don't judge. I'm getting better about posting sooner but life gets in the way and I'm just constantly busy.

I posted awhile back that we took a mini trip out west to go visit my cousin who lives on a ranch near Stapleton. Coincidentally they were having their county fair that weekend and her boyfriend was participating in the Ranch Rodeo so it was an added bonus. There was also a 5k race going on that Saturday morning. That just meant I got the privilege of running a 5k race four hours away from home with my cousins and aunt!
We woke up bright and early so we could be registered and checked in on time for the race. Little miss Kyla was running the kids one mile run and insisted that I run it with her. So, me being the "super awesome" fun cousin that I am, I took her up on it and jogged the entire race with her. I think I mentioned it before but that little rascal is a sprinter! She's not in it for the long haul, she's in it to be done. So we'd sprint a little ways and then she'd want to walk it because she was tired. We'd sprint up again and then walk. Quite the challenge considering I wanted to have a nice warm up job but instead was practicing sprint intervals.
But, her sprinting must have helped! Check out how that little bugger did!! WooHoo congrats Kyla on placing second :)

And since I wasn't lucky enough to to have my phone NOT delete my time for the mile fun run I'll go ahead and post my results... Yes, I'm bitter about this subject. Read more later.
But before I continue on and explain about the real 5k race I wanted to point out one thing... If you check out the race results page below you'll notice they forgot the adult category on the 1 mile fun run. Yes, that'd be this girl as the winner! I was bummed but I guess they considered the one mile just the kiddos run. Otherwise, I owned all the adults in that run! :P
Then after a short ten minute break it was time for us adults to get lined up at the start line and head off straight west towards a giant hill and endure our 5k race. I'm not gonna lie, I was worried about how I was going to do, after all, I did just get done sprinting a mile didn't I!?!
The race started, I struggled finding my rhythm at first, probably because of my warm-up run but it was fine. I ended up just focusing on my breathing and worrying about the hill I was going down. Racers know what I mean when I say don't burst down the hill, conserve the energy, rock back in those heals and let gravity do the work.
The race route was pretty straight forward, run one mile straight west out of town, turn around, run up the giant hill back into town and then run the last mile straight east where the kids' course was. I was kind of confused about it while running, I, like most runners, thought that once you made it back to town from the race you were done, I was looking at stats on my phone and it wasn't adding up to be the full 3.1 miles so once I topped the hill and saw the rest of the runners going east I was overwhelmed with "will this ever be over" feelings. That giant hill I just tackled took the wind out of me and I'm not normally a hill runner. Here in Saline County all things are flat (except for tummys and butts).

I was exhausted from pushing myself through the hill but I didn't want to give up and walk it. I was determined to push through it and keep going. At one point I was pulling on my rib cage to help give my lungs air and get rid of the cramp that was going on. Yes, I looked like a nut pulling on my tummy fat but it somehow helped I told myself.
I finally crossed the finish line and gave myself a HUGE pat on the back for tackling that hill and not giving up. I have a knack for not working out until two weeks before a race. I know it's terrible and I need to focus on a constant training routine but I just never do. I always tell myself to work harder and stay focused on the next race but I always fall off the wagon.
To top off the terrible run I felt I just finished I went to save my run into RunKeeper and it deleted my tracking results. Nothing, I repeat, nothing upsets a runner more than a race not getting saved. I like to look back and see how I did!
I felt defeated after the race, there was a nagging inside me that said I could have went harder. I was proud for pushing through the pain but I saw some girls that were close to my age and I wanted to beat them. They weren't very far in front of me but I just knew they'd take my age category and I'd end up not getting anything.
Buuut, surprise! Once my cousins were over the finish line and we watched the last few racers pull in they told us to give them a couple minutes to calculate results. We sat around, stretched (ok so just me) and joked about who would place where. So we're standing around talking about the plans for the day and out of no where a big WHACK on the back happens and I look around to see what I did wrong.
It was my cousin congratulating me on placing FIRST IN MY AGE DIVISION!! I was so excited to not only place in this race that I was so hard on myself but also because it was my first time I've ever placed first in a race. #doubleyay
I received my medal like a proud peacock and then proceeded to wait and hear that my cousin, Lisa, received third place! Then, we hear that my aunt also received second place in her age division! Plus, did I mention that little miss Kyla even received second in the kids run?! We were all winners that day!!

RESULTS:
Kelsey- 33:04 time, 1st in age division, 22nd overall out of 59
Lisa- 42:17 time, 3rd in age division, 32nd overall out of 59
Kathy- 50:23 time, 2nd in age division, 49th overall out of 59
Kyla- 9:50 time, 2nd in age division
To view how others did look on the Stapleton Stampede website.
So what I've taken away from this racing experience: Spend time with family, go on trips to go see them. Travel and get out of your comfort zone. Making memories with family is what life is made of. Race that extra mile before the race just to get yourself warmed up. But, make sure you stretch in between races!

Oh, and one last thing I learned after this race. The best supporter you can have out on the course is your man! This was one of the first races of mine he's attended and it meant so much to me!! :)

Pretty Little Beauty (Exchange Link-Up Reveal)

I participated in the Pretty Little Beauty Swap that +Chelsee W hosted!! I was lucky enough to be partnered with Ginny over at A Modern Commonplace and getting to know her I found we had several things in common!

We both are drug store make up ladies who don't really go over board on our looks. We both are scared of doing over the top styles and we're both not on board with the whole crazy headbands and hair ties thing. Oh, did I mention we both LOVE Bath & Body Works? Yup, surprised aren't ya?! ;)

A Modern Commonplace Book
I was excited to get my cute little package with all sorts of fun things to test out. The lotion smells super yummy, I cannot wait to use it up, I've already used a lot of it since I have it sitting on my desk at work. The eye colors look fun and I cannot wait to find a time to use them up soon. I guess I have a good excuse to go out now! Oh and the Burt's Bees, funny story. I actually sent her some Burt's Bee's products as well!

Getting to know Ginny was so much fun! I "dare" you to go check her out! She's so fun and such a sweetie!! She has so much advice and so many neat things on her blog. I'm a personal fan of all her tips sections, you can find a ton of recipes on there as well!
