30Dob (Day 30) -April 30DoB Goal Review- {{ PLUS A GIVEAWAY}}

It's the LAST day of our 30 Days of Blogging Series and I am filled with joy and saddness. Joy because I have met A LOT of new friends who I will now continue to stay in check with and keep tabs on but sad because I'm finally getting into the grove of blogging daily and now the prompts won't be there to lead me anymore.

First off I want to say thank you to everyone who has helped participate and co-host. And an extra special thank you to Heather for hosting this wonderful series with me.

WE'RE HOSTING A GIVEAWAY!! Make sure you keep scrolling all the way to the bottom so you can enter to win some fabulous cash from some of our awesome hosts/co-hosts!!

Is it seriously the end of the month already?! No way! Looking back at my goals at the beginning of the month I'm pleasantly surprised to see how well I did. Let's check in and evaluate them...

1. Log the full thirty miles in thirty days this month!! Well, let's just go ahead and assume I won't run 20.79 miles tomorrow so this one sucked and I didn't hit this goal... I really keep telling myself to do it but I just need to do it! Epic. Fail. (womp, woooomp)

2. Add FOUR new items to DirtRoadDesigning. So, my shop now has eight items in it! I know I may have hit my four this month but I want to continue to add items to it. Right now they're mostly just business items for a photographer but they could easily be used for other things. My Photo-A-Day template is pretty bomb and I have been using it this month each day so far and I love it. I want to turn my photo a day calendars into a book at the end of the year. This will work perfectly for that idea!

3. Sell more clutter and donate the rest. I met up with at least five people and even donated a handful of farmer boy's hats to a friend! We're both learning to live even more clutter free and the feeling is so freeing! I was proud of Trav for giving away almost 20+ hats, mostly ones he's received through giveaways or vendors he deals with. I don't get the obsession with needing a hat when you have 30 at home you never wear but I suppose it's like my tennis shoe addiction. I'm still working on getting rid of things but if you're up for it, go check out my for sale items (find the link on the right hand side of the blog) and let me know if you find something you need :)

4. Continue to work on organization. Well, here's the "before" and "after" pictures of our basement from this past weekend. I'd say I get a gold sticker for this one! Not only did I completely clean up our basement but I also tackled a few other areas, I went through our dysfunctional tupperware drawers, I cleaned out the fridge, I organized my desk (finally) and I even attempted to declutter our catch-all drawer. I'd say I'm doing pretty good on this one!

5. Get my 2014 Yearbook Up To Date. Yup, fail. I'm ok with a fail on this one too. Mostly I blame it on my computer and my lack of internet working. Maybe I should just borrow my mom's laptop and internet to upload the pictures and then worry about organizing the yearbooks later. Otherwise, I considered making the book pages completely in photoshop then just uploading the completed pages to my MixBooks account.

So, overall I completed three out of five. In the mathematics world that's over half so therefore I feel as if I accomplished what I was set out to do! The other two could have been completed but sometimes you just have to give up and know you're working on things. Keep an eye out, I actually might make this goal thing into a monthly link-up for us!!

30DoB (Day 28) -Freebie: Boston Marathon-

Welcome everyone! To those who are new jump on in! No need to back track and catch up on what you've missed (unless of course you want to, then by all means please do). Grab the button and blog about today's question. We love including newbies and are excited to see what you have to say each day!

WE'RE HOSTING A GIVEAWAY!! Stay tuned for more details but I cannot wait to see whose ready to participate and win :)

______________________________________________________________________________________________

Today's post was sitting in drafts for a few days but with today's post being a freebie it felt right to post this! I mean, today is exactly one week since the Boston Marathon and I think my feelings have sat around long enough I'm ready to talk about it all.
CHEATED BY FELLOW RUNNERS!!
If you haven't heard or seen on the tweets/facebook/instagram posts yet I'll get you caught up to speed.
The Boston Marathon happened on this past Monday. A year ago there was a bombing that killed and injured runners and spectators. It was tragic and totally unexpected.
A fantastic runner named Meb from America WON the men's division. (Go USA!)
And a runner named Kara was robbed of her victory and hard work...
Did that catch your attention? Well it should have!
She was like any other participant that paid her dues, trained her heart out and was prepared to run her Boston Marathon with pride knowing that all of her hard work would be used on this course. All the dedication and hundreds of miles in training just to get to this point would pay off and she could proudly boast that she has completed the oldest marathon in the USA.
But then these butt-flocks decided to steal her number and try to run as well.

Looking at them annoys me. It really bothers me that anyone would have the audacity to do something like this and try to invade on someone else's glory. I consider this stealing, they stole her number just to earn a part in American history as running part of a race that was, just a year ago, a catastrophic disaster and affected millions in the running community.
I understand with over 36,000 runners it's often difficult to manage four stupid individuals but that doesn't make Kara feel any better about getting her number stolen. As a matter of fact, it makes the entire running community worry that possibly other numbers could have been stolen as well!
I am basing this off of my own personal assumptions but they all look like college kids, they all look about the same age and they all look they did it as a pact together. Assuming they chit chatted and decided as a "team" to all do the same thing and see if they could pull it off.
Want to know the interesting part. You have to qualify for this race. Meaning you have to run a certified race course at a different marathon a year prior to even be able to register for the Boston Marathon. Want to know each age divisions times you're needing to beat in order to sign up? Check out these numbers below for the mens category:
  • 18 to 21: Qualifying Time of 3:05 (7:04/mile pace)
  • 22 to 34: Qualifying Time of 3:05 (7:04/mile)
  • 35 to 39: Qualifying Time of 3:10 (7:15/mile)
  • 40 to 44: Qualifying Time of 3:15 (7:27/mile)
  • 45 to 49: Qualifying Time of 3:25 (7:49/mile)
  • 50 to 54: Qualifying Time of 3:30 (8:01/mile)
  • 55 to 59: Qualifying Time of 3:40 (8:24/mile)
  • 60 to 64: Qualifying Time of 3:55 (8:58/mile)
  • 65 to 69: Qualifying Time of 4:10 (9:33/mile)
  • 70 to 74: Qualifying Time of 4:25 (10:07/mile)
  • 75 to 79: Qualifying Time of 4:40 (10:41/mile)
  • 80 and older: Qualifying Time of 4:55 (11:16/mile)
So with those standards set looking at their age division that they should be in I'm going to assume they'd need a 7:04/mile pace to qualify. More than likely they could easily do it or they wouldn't have faked signing up and ending up at the back of the pack. The question is why did they choose to cheat?
One of the runners that stole her bib number stepped forward and sent out a public message stating her reasoning. Her husband is the co-founder and CEO of the company FourSquare (which will now never receive my business) claims her and her husband wanted to run together and since she didn't qualify this year they decided to let her run in any way possible. Which, to them, must mean stealing is ok... NOT! Read more about it here.
Kara, and two other runners were faced with bib stealers. Kara had four, another guy had one and the lady mentioned above was also stealing someone's number. My question is, why or how will they go about fixing this for next year? How can they make it so you need a specific item or scanned in to actually run?
Don't they feel as if they'll lose the concept of participating and being proud of the fact that they earned their right to run it?!

If I were to steal a number or cheat my way into a race I wouldn't feel as if I really earned my bib or medal. I wouldn't feel proud to show family and friends pictures of myself completing a race that I didn't earn. I don't know how these people were raised but I was raised with integrity and a guilty conscious!

What's on my Spring Bucket List?

Well, a lot! But it's mostly the same things as every spring...

Plant a Garden. This project is just kicking off actually. We've tilled the garden about seven times and I'm ready to get my little veggies planted. Every year I set goals of making my garden look awesome but this year I'm focusing on smaller quanities and getting my mulch out in time. That'll make a world of difference I think ;)

Book More Photography Sessions. So far my summer is looking fairly open. I'm hoping that once it gets nicer I'll fill up and gain more momentum. I love photography and even more so I love capturing memories of friends and family members.

Document Planting Season. This goes along with starting up and continuing my Farming On The Four's posts! If anyone wants to help with this and co-host please would you? It'll help hold me accountable too :)

Go Running More. Do I need to explain? I just want to log my solid thirty miles each month plus more!! I feel as if my running has taken the back burner and I really want to focus on it more!

Check Out a Farmer's Market. Ok, so this one sounds silly, but I'm the first to admit that I've never visited our local farmer's market and I do honestly, feel really guilty about it. Time for change, I want to see what they're all about even if we're a small town.

Read More Books in My Hammock. This is just fun, since I'm participating the in Summer Reading Challenge this means I need more time to read my books! Guess I'd better get comfy and the weather better warm up so I can enjoy some time out lounging in the sun!!

30DoB (Day 26)

Welcome everyone! To those who are new jump on in! No need to back track and catch up on what you've missed (unless of course you want to, then by all means please do). Grab the button and blog about today's question. We love including newbies and are excited to see what you have to say each day!

______________________________________________________________________________________________

Jumping right into this one I'd say there are many life lessons I've learned in my short twenty-four years of life.

Never take credit for God's work. I'd say one of the most important things that I can credit for all the adventures and the positive attitude I've had in my life is due to God. I can distinctly remember the place, time of day and age I was when I decided that I trusted God with my whole heart and had intentions of allowing him to lead my life in the direction he choose. Now I understand that sometimes I fall or stumble, but the Lord is there to pick me up and remind me that by choose him my life will be ok. I thank him daily for the miracles he's worked and I am very open about following in my faith.

Don't forget to stay grounded. I often get myself in over my head and things are going great then something happens and I realize I strayed too far and I didn't stay grounded enough. Lesson learned over and over again but always be grateful for the opportunities that come your way but never forget where you came from!!

Family comes first, always. There has never been a point in my life (thankfully) where I've been forced to choose between family and someone but in my opinion family will always be first. There has been things I've done they don't agree with but they've never once walked out on me or disowned me. I have an amazing family that is there with words of encouragement even through struggles when I can't rationalize what to do in the situation. Again, they keep me grounded and remind me of my faith and trust in the Lord. (See what I did there, more life lessons from above!)

Don't spend frivolously. Alright so ever since I was little I had a guilty concious of spending money. I guess I was born to save? Weird, but I'd feel guilty dropping $200+ on a prom dress, or going out to see movies with friends every week. If it weren't for me saving back my money over the past few years this 5+ months of  "retirement" would have been impossible for me to get by. Lesson being, don't spend on extra things unless you have some savings hidden and can pay for a spare time (or two) without having to pick up extra shifts at work.
